“Acceleration” of the war against COVID-19: DIAN’s “Rapid Diagnosis” Lab completed in 7 days with a daily detection of 70000 cases

Entering the “second half” of the prevention and control of COVID-19, the prevention and control measures of “detecting as much as it should be done” and “detecting as much as people want” were taken in many places throughout China, leading to a sharp increase of the demand for nucleic acid detection, which brought a challenge to the nucleic acid detection capability of medical institutions in various regions.

In the face of the rapid increase of nucleic acid detection volume, DIAN Diagnostics took emergency actions to build a “Rapid Diagnosis” Lab in Hangzhou in 7 days with an area of 1200m2and with a daily detection of 70000 cases, which was accepted by Zhejiang Center for Clinical Laboratories on May 6. The “Rapid Diagnosis” Lab is pronounced as “Leidi” in Chinese which means it is like a radar (pronounced as “Leida” in Chinese, similar to “Leidi”), leaving no place for the novel coronavirus to hide. With its completion, the nucleic acid detection capacity of the laboratory in DIAN’s headquarter in Hangzhou has reached 100,000 cases, creating a new national record on the unit capacity of nucleic acid detection labs.

On May 9, the launching ceremony of Rapid Diagnosis Lab was held, where Yu Xinle, Deputy Director of Health Commission of Zhejiang Province, Xie Xinyou, Vice President of Sir Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Li Weixing, Director of Zhejiang Center for Clinical Laboratories, Gao Weixing, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xihu District Committee and Zhuwen, head of Health Bureau of Xihu District were present to witness the completion of Rapid Diagnosis Lab.

Message from Chen Haibin, Chairman of DIAN Diagnostics

In his speech, Chen Haibin, Chairman of DIAN Diagnostics, expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the government and partners for DIAN Diagnostics, and introduced the construction process of Rapid Diagnosis Lab and the actions taken by the Company since the war against COVID-19.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, DIAN actively responds to the call of the government, and so far has provided 31 chain labs to carry out COVID-19 detection in 26 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and the online appointment service for nucleic acid detection, with cumulative detection over 2.8 million cases. In terms of Rapid Diagnosis Lab, the daily detection capacity has reached 70,000 cases, able to meet the demands for mass nucleic acid detection in Zhejiang Province. Detected objects of any kind may receive the nucleic acid detection report within 24 hours from the detection.

“Keeping innovative is the only way to overcome a crisis”, said Chen Haibin. DIAN will continue to give full play to its professional strength and to practice the mission of “equal access to healthcare”, contributing its own power to zero the COVID-19 case and to establish a healthy China.

Leaders and guests are visiting Rapid Diagnosis Lab

After the launching ceremony, the participating leaders and guests have a field visit in Rapid Diagnosis Lab to get a close-up understanding of the Lab.

In Rapid Diagnosis Lab, more than 200 new medical instruments and equipment are orderly distributed, ready for nucleic acid detection. The whole lab is consisted of the sample receiving and pretreatment area, reagent preparation area, sample preparation and nucleic acid amplification area, result analysis area, etc., which is constructed in strict accordance with the requirements for secondary biosafety protection.

At the initial stage, nearly 100 technicians will be put into Rapid Diagnosis Lab after technical training on biosafety and nucleic acid detection for COVID-19, and will work in three shifts to ensure the high-speed operation of the Lab. Plus the existing labs, the capacity of labs in DIAN’s headquarter will reach 100,000 cases.

2018 exquisite anti-epidemic souvenirs are presented to the medical teams coming to Hubei for support

In the process of fighting against COVID-19, medical workers in China, especially those coming from other regions in China for supporting the front line in Hubei, play the most critical role with the spirit of selfless dedication. As a leading enterprise in medical diagnostics, DIAN Diagnostics has a deep understanding and recognition of the pay of those medical workers.

As a result, in addition to mobilizing all staff to fight against COVID-19, DIAN Diagnostics, in cooperation with FELLALA, a fashion jewelry brand, has designed and produced 5 exquisite souvenirs as a regard to the medical workers coming to support Hubei, based on the design idea that “your face may not be seen clearly, but your spirit will be remembered”, in order to “show our respect to the brave heroes who put themselves in harm’s way”.

A letter of acknowledgement from Health Commission of Zhejiang Province to DIAN Diagnostics

Deputy director Yu Xinle sent a letter of acknowledgement on behalf of Health Commission of Zhejiang Province to extend gratitude to DIAN Diagnostics for his contribution to the fight against COVID-19.

As one of the earliest third-party labs established in China, DIAN Diagnostics, upon 24 years of development, has not only completed the deployment of 39 chain laboratories in China, but also opened up the upstream and downstream of the health industry chain, forming comprehensive advantages on “R&D and manufacture of diagnostic reagents, medical diagnostic services, and health management”. During the epidemic, DIAN Diagnostics, based on the advantages of the industrial chain, has invested 8 teams and 14 technologies, and formed an overall solution for the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 from clinical diagnosis, treatment guidance and prognosis judgment, to mechanism research, contributing to the prevention and control of the epidemic in the long term.

In order to accelerate the fight against COVID-19, DIAN Diagnostics has cooperated with Ali Health, Alipay, Ding Talk and Baidu to provide the appointment service for nucleic acid detection in 15 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities). The completion of Rapid Diagnosis Lab will enable DIAN Diagnostics to make greater contributions to the prevention and control of the epidemic with stronger nucleic acid detection capability.
